Report of the Health Workforce Advisory Committee on Encouraging Māori to Work in the Health Professions
Date of Publication: October 2006
In this report the Health Workforce Advisory Committee (HWAC) sets out a number of recommendations aimed at encouraging Māori, and possibly also Pacific people, to work in the health professions.
Reports and sector consultation have identified that the health sector is likely to face a significant workforce shortage in the medium future and that it already faces a shortage of health professionals with an understanding of Māori and Pacific health perspectives and cultures. HWAC considers that increasing the absolute and comparative numbers of Māori and Pacific people working in health would effectively contribute to addressing both problems.
