Final report and advice to the Minister of Health from the Medical Reference Group, sub-committee of the Health Workforce Advisory Committee. Some of the report’s critical recommendations include:
- nationally focused strategic workforce planning
- increasing the number of medical students
- encouraging more medical students from rural backgrounds
- postgraduate years 1 and 2 clinical attachments to include training with community-based health care and disability community-based care
- ideas on improving recruitment and retention of New Zealand-trained doctors
